They need to hear from you!
A broken National Energy Board puts our democracy and our environment at risk, and the Trudeau government has pledged to fix it.
At no other time in history have we been presented with this rare opportunity to be the architects of one of the most important decision-making bodies in our country.
The Trudeau government has promised to fix the NEB - because pressure from communities and activists along pipeline routes finally revealed Canadians had lost faith in its legitimacy.
Thanks to the National Observer for uncovering the concealed conflicts of interest within the National Energy Board Panel reviewing Energy East and to people like you who have had enough with the backroom deals and secrecy of any national body that wields such influence, the government of Canada now has a critical obligation to restore the NEB in a way that reflects our democratic values of open consultation, transparency, and accountability.
Please sign this message today to ensure our government:
- places the safety and welfare of people and communities over industry profit
- removes environmental assessment from NEB's authority
- respects the rights of Indigenous peoples
- forces the NEB to align its work with our targets under the Paris Agreement.
The Trudeau government has made a public commitment to fix the National Energy Board and to safeguard our environment.
Let’s hold them to it.
With thanks,
Gretchen Fitzgerald
