July 2022
Take the Plastic Free July Challenge with Sierra Club Canada!
We all know how big a problem plastic pollution is – unfortunately we haven’t solved that one yet. But we have seen some big changes for plastic.
The Canadian Government recently passed the Single Use Plastic Ban on six single use items — stir sticks, straws, ring carriers (six pack rings), foodservice ware made from or containing problematic plastics, cutlery, and checkout bags. This is a huge step for Canada and it wouldn’t have been possible without the work of people like you who care about the environment.
We know this is only the beginning. A lot more needs to be done to tackle the plastic crisis. Which is why we invite you to join the Plastic Free July Challenge, a series of activities and actions being organized by the Sierra Club Canada and the Great Lakes’ Plastic Pollution Solutions Coalition.
Stay tuned for action on the federal ban — more needs to be done. And in the meantime, you'll get tools to reduce plastic pollution by pushing for much-needed policy change, asking local stores to reduce unnecessary plastic use — plus have access to educational materials, events and helpful ideas to reduce your personal contribution to plastic waste.
By joining the Plastic Free Challenge, you will be joining others in pushing for solutions to plastic pollution.
Whether this is your first time, or you’ve been with us the past couple years, we hope you will join us in going Plastic Free this July!
Sincerely,
Lucy Bain
